Ozaukee Lacrosse Club Philosophy

Inclusion:
All players are welcome and beginners are encouraged to join. We are an instructional and equal-playing time sports league. All teams are co-ed.

Coaching:
We seek coaches that are disciplined, positive, instructional and motivating. Our coach[s] will be encouraged to teach using the PCA Double-Goal Coaching Philosophy with two wins in mind. The first goal is to win and the second is to teach life-lessons.

Ideal Per team:
1 Head Coach
2 Assistant Coaches
1 Team manager
2-3 Assistant managers

*Ozaukee Lacrosse will do whatever it can to fulfill the coaching requirements, but cannot do so if parents do not volunteer. Please contact Keven Ringgold or Bret Naggs if interested in helping out on a team.

Team Creation:
If certain grade levels have enough players for multiple teams, teams will be split as evenly as possible. Ozaukee Lacrosse will try take into account carpooling and team cohesiveness in determining team breakouts. Players will be assigned to teams on a first come, first serve basis- Any registered players who do not get assigned to a team will be notified and can be put on a waiting list.

*Players who feel they want to be considered to play up, must submit a request to the BOD. All requests will be voted on at the beginning of April.

Developmental Wolf Pup’s K-2nd grade-
This is an in-house program and does not consist of traveling to play other teams. The emphasis of the developmental program is to have fun and to teach players the basic skills and rules of the game.

Season will begin mid-March end beg. June. Practices and games will be combined and consist of ninety-minute sessions [2x] a week and will focus on skills using a stations format and in-house games.

Players will be divided equally into in-house teams; # of teams will be based on registered participants and a rotating game schedule will be created.

Commitment:
At the Bantam [3/4th] and Junior [5/6th] grade levels we encourage children to play a variety of sports and are more tolerant of scheduling conflicts. At the Senior 7/8th grade level, a player must regularly attend practices and games, subject to realistic and legitimate competing demands on their time.

Practices:
We come to practice to learn; we practice at game speed. Teams will begin practice indoors beginning in March [moving outdoors as weather permits] ending in June. Early emphasis will be on stick skills and conditioning, with later emphasis on plays and strategy. We expect more experienced players to provide instruction to newer players.

Games:
Begin in April, approximately a 12 game schedule. Game schedule is
determined by MAYLA and is typically released near the end of March.

Playing time:
Ozaukee Youth Lacrosse supports the development of the sport in our area through teams that provide instruction on game skills, an expectation of equitable playing time for all players, in a fun and safe environment. Equitable playing time will start with the expectation that all players want to be in the game. The objective is to provide equitable time on the field based on participation in practices, any personal safety considerations, while allowing for the occasional influence of game competitive situations. However, playing time for players demonstrating a poor attitude and lack of team commitment may NOT receive equal time at the discretion of the head coach.

*Midfielders tend to rotate on and of the field more frequently than other positions.

Tournament Team:
a] Will be created if there are multiple teams at a grade level

b] Will be determined through a try-out & coach evaluation process at the beginning of June

c] Will consist of 2 tournaments in June

d] Players need to be committed to playing in both year-end tournaments and participating in all practices in order to be considered for team.
